ASEAN Secretary launches Smokefree ASEAN campaign

In the opening ceremony,  ASEAN Secretary-General, Dr Surin Pitsuwan launched the smoke-free ASEAN campaign, calling on ASEAN Member States to work together with the international community and civil society

within Southeast Asia towards the vision of a Smoke-Free ASEAN. He set the goal of extending  smoke free policy to every capital city in ASEAN countries and to all 600 million people in ASEAN by the end of 2012”.  With the slogan of  “10 countries, 1 vision: a smoke-free ASEAN”, the campaign was initiated with a symbolic ceremony of the 10 Ministers of health joining 10 children with flags of the 10 ASEAN countries.
