This Advocacy Guide from UICC, American Cancer Society and the Campaign for Tobacco-free Kids forms part of the Tobacco Control Strategy Planning Guides series.
This guide is designed primarily for use by nongovernmental advocates, especially in developing nations, who are guiding tobacco control laws and regulations into implementation.
As smoke-free laws gain momentum and pass all over the world, we, as advocates, want to help ensure that they are enforced and that they do what they are intended to do.
Like earlier guides in the series, the Strategic Planning Guide looks at five key questions tobacco control advocates need to answer as we develop our advocacy strategies and campaigns:
- What do we want?
- Who has the authority and the power to compel compliance and
respect for smoke-free air laws?
- What messages do our target audiences need to hear to motivate them to vigorously enforce or comply with smoke-free laws and regulations?
- Who can most effectively deliver these messages?
- How do we get our target audiences to hear our messages?
The Guide is richly illustrated with inspiring examples of advocacy and action for enforcing smokefree laws and regulations from our colleagues across the world.
