An announcement was made on 29 November 2008 that comprehensive smokefree legislation will be implemented on 1 March 2009.The Public Health Act was amended in 2008 to ban smoking in all public places, including outdoor bars and restaurants, bus terminals, bus stops, taxi stands, public gardens and beaches.
